Early Childhood Development in Uganda

The ECD services apply to daycare centers, community-based centers, and Nursery /Kindergarten centers.
These services are given in accordance with the available framework for ECD. It's a kind of curriculum used to support the teaching of all areas of development for pre-school children.
These children are under the care of qualified caregivers. The ratio of teacher to learners should be 1:25 for children 3-5 years and 1:15 for children 1-2 years. Most centers are private and unlicensed and are in the process of being licensed.
The ECD programme is still optional. It would be better if the government came in and made it compulsory with enough funding and made it compulsory for children below six years to join the programme.
The Local Government Act should also include ECD services in its structures to support them in order to get instructional materials that contribute to better learning and development
